Wind Power Technology

Wind Power Technology
Train for careers in renewable energy through hands-on instruction in wind turbine maintenance, electrical systems and power generation technology.
Hands-on renewable energy training
The Wind Power Technology program is a nine-month certificate pathway designed to prepare technicians for careers in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
The program provides broad foundational training in the electrical, electronic and mechanical systems used in wind energy production, with a focus on wind turbine maintenance and electrical power generation.
The National Electrical Code and electrical theory are integrated throughout the program, along with essential workplace safety training.
Industry and offshore training opportunities
Since its inception in 2010, NMCC’s Wind Power program has become one of New England’s leading wind energy training programs.
NMCC partners with Maine Maritime Academy to provide offshore safety training that helps prepare students for careers working on offshore wind turbines being developed off the Maine coast and in other coastal regions.
Applicants should be comfortable climbing and working at heights, as these are important components of the profession.
Career outcomes
Graduates of the Wind Power Technology program have found employment opportunities with wind farm operators, turbine manufacturers and contractors providing maintenance and technical support locally and globally.
Potential career pathways include:
- Wind Turbine Technician
- Renewable Energy Technician
- Wind Farm Maintenance Technician
- Electrical Maintenance Technician
- Mechanical Systems Technician
- Offshore Wind Support Technician
- Field Service Technician
New wind energy projects continue to be developed across New England and throughout the United States.
