Aroostook County – This year’s TD Bank Golf Tournament to benefit the NMCC Foundation raised more than $13,000 after expenses toward NMCC Foundation student scholarships. Held Thursday, August 10th at the Presque Isle Country Club, this year marked the 16th anniversary of the tournament. The day concluded with a barbeque and silent auction as winners were announced.

Twenty teams totaling 80 golfers teed off for the annual scramble, with an additional 25 joining for the barbeque. After a slow rebound from the pandemic, this year’s event saw a 60% increase in golfer participation. The tournament partnership between the College and TD Bank began in 2006 and to date has raised approximately $300,000 for scholarship funds. In a summer marked by heavier than average rainfall, the day brought sunny skies with temperatures in the low 70’s.

“We could not host this event without the effort, enthusiasm, and financial support of TD Bank and the employees committed to planning this event. A special thank you to Jeff Pangburn and his team for their dedication, and Maine State President Larry Wold, who drove north from Freeport to support the event,” said NMCC Foundation Executive Director Griffin Goins. During his remarks to kickoff the event, Larry Wold described Maine’s community colleges as the most effective dollar-for-dollar way to improve the lives of Mainers.

The winning team at the tournament included Mike Boone, Jack Boone, Jonah Hudson, and Cody Merrill with a score of 62. Rob MacKinnon, Craig Cyr, Greg Palm, and Beth Hummel, won First Net with a score of 54. Second Net went to Ron McAtee, Rudy St. Peter, Shawn Lahey, and Toney Lahey (a member of the Foundation Board), with a score of 56.  The team including Jeremy York, Patty Cavagnaro, Tyler Theriault, and Ryan Cavagnaro took Third Net with a score of 56.

The event featured a silent auction with donated items including Boston Bruins tickets and a Boston Celtics Jersey. This year’s auction brought in over $2,700 in revenue.

“Helping Mainers to gain skills and education has a multiplying effect within the community, and it resonates through our families and businesses. The individuals benefitting from these funds are the backbone of our community. As always, this partnership is both a pleasure and an effective way to make a meaningful difference,” stated TD Bank Vice President, Senior Relationship Manger Jeff Pangburn.

In addition to the title sponsor, major sponsors for the event include MMG Insurance, R.M. Davis & Michael P. Wood, and Allegiance Trucks.  Aramark, ABM Mechanical, WBRC Inc., and Northern Maine Media-WHOU sponsored lunch.

Dream Vacations was the sponsor for the Hole-In-One Contest, promising a $15,000 river cruise to any participant who shot a hole-in-one on the 17th hole.

The TD Bank Golf Tournament begins registration each summer, is traditionally held during the month of August, and is open to community members of all ages and skill levels. Those not interested in golfing are welcome to join for the social hour, auction, and dinner. For more information visit the NMCC website or contact the Development Office at (207) 768-2809.
