Northern Maine Community College Hosts Career Ready Expo to Equip Students for Success Beyond the Classroom
Northern Maine Community College is organizing the first Career Ready Expo in the Edmunds Conference Center on March 19th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is based on the former Dress for Success events last held in 2019. Building job searching skills is key for the 100+ students who will be graduating from NMCC this May. At the Career Ready Expo, students will prepare for upcoming career opportunities beyond what is typically offered in the classroom.
At the event, students will be invited to browse a wide selection of free professional clothes to find an outfit appropriate for a job interview or networking with employers. Professional clothes help make a good impression and boost the interviewee’s confidence. To help alleviate the expense of new clothes, NMCC collects gently used professional clothes to provide to students who are beginning their new careers. Clothing donations are being accepted at NMCC until March 14.
This event is partnering with JMG and the Presque Isle Career Center to offer resume reviews and interviewing practice with students. Students may bring a resume draft to receive feedback to stand out in their applications. Another table will offer interviewing advice and mock interviews for students willing to build their skills.
Armed with the right outfit, a strong resume, confidence for an interview, and various other resources for job searching, students will have tools to help them stand out, connect, and succeed when meeting with their potential employers. Students are also encouraged to use these skills when meeting employers at the upcoming Job Fair on March 28.
