PRESQUE ISLE, M.E. — Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) is proud to announce its selection as one of the recipients of nearly $15 million in federal funding designated for Maine’s community colleges. Three grant requests submitted by NMCC through the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) process were included in the recent federal budget package signed by President Joe Biden, totaling $1.46M for the College. This funding aims to fortify NMCC’s infrastructure, renovate workforce housing, and expand one of the College’s most high-demand programs, diesel hydraulics technology.

Aligned with NMCC’s commitment to meet the evolving workforce needs of Aroostook County and throughout the State of Maine, $410,000 has been allocated to purchase equipment for the diesel hydraulics training program. This equipment purchase will enable NMCC to enroll and train more students in this high-demand field. This funding request grant was advanced by Senators Susan Collins and Angus King.

Additionally, Senator Collins and Senator King supported a $550,000 funding request to support technology upgrades to the campus.  These upgrades will allow the College to continue to implement advanced training options to best prepare our students for the workforce.

The third project involves the renovation of Andrews Hall, aimed at expanding temporary housing for short-term workforce training. This endeavor, backed by a $500,000 investment supported by Congressman Jared Golden, will play a crucial role in retaining and credentialing individuals within the industry, thereby contributing to the ongoing development of a skilled workforce.

NMCC President Tim Crowley expressed gratitude towards Maine’s congressional delegation for their pivotal role in securing this funding. He shared, “Thanks to the support of Senators Susan Collins and Angus King, and Congressman Jared Golden, NMCC can embark on vital renovations and investments crucial for our growth and the continued success of our students. This funding signifies an investment in our institutional mission to provide every student with the education and training they need to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving workforce.”
