NMCC Open House October 18th
Aroostook County – Northern Maine Community College will hold Open House 2019 for prospective students and families on Friday, Oct. 18 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the campus on 33 Edgemont Drive in Presque Isle. Check-in will be held at the lobby of the Smith Wellness Center.
Visitors are welcome to tour the campus, labs and classrooms, see student demonstrations and presentations, and meet with admissions and financial aid staff. Visitors can enjoy “Dining like a student” with a free lunch at Reed Commons and door prizes will be awarded.
“We’re looking forward to having the public interact with students, faculty and staff,” said President Tim Crowley. “If you haven’t visited our campus in a few years, you will be amazed at the technology available for the over 30 degree and certificate programs offered here.”
Demonstrations to be offered include: the new virtual anatomy table; preparation and painting a vehicle; airbrush displays; solar array display; live fire-burner demo; CNC milling machine demos in the precision machining technology lab; heat loss infrared photography; wind power harness and climbing; paddle wheel welds; electric vehicle diagnostics displays and much more.
Visitors can visit open classrooms or sit in on physics and biology, water treatment technology and computer networking labs. Take time to experience a class in the arts and sciences and business technology departments.
Throughout the day the nursing and allied health simulation center will be giving interactive demonstrations using high-fidelity mannequins. The emergency medical services department will have stations set-up for demonstrating a variety of emergency medical skills. Also, during the day, staff at the Smith Wellness Center will be conducting tours and equipment demonstrations.
Visitors have the opportunity to personally experience virtual reality and eSports gaming computers located in the library. This is NMCC’s first year to “field” an eSports team, the NMCC Falcons, and the College is excited to share the new powerful gaming stations.
Participants are also welcome to tour campus housing options. Those who apply to the College on the day of Open House will have their application fee waived.
NMCC’s programs are designed to prepare students to transfer to another institution of higher education or enter the work force with technically-current skills, as well as, prepare students for lifelong learning and career advancement opportunities. More than 95% of NM’s graduates are employed within six months of their graduation in jobs related to their training or are continuing their education.
