NMCC Names Jalen Lucas as Student of the Year
PRESQUE ISLE, M.E. — Northern Maine Community College (NMCC) proudly announces Jalen Lucas as the recipient of the Student of the Year award. Lucas’s outstanding academic performance, leadership, and contributions to the community have earned him the accolade. The award will be formally presented at an event in Hallowell on April 24th, hosted by the Maine Community College System. As the Student of the Year recipient, Jalen will also be featured as the student speaker at the NMCC Commencement on May 11th.
Jalen Lucas, a dedicated student in the Business Administration program, has consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence during his tenure at NMCC. His hard work and determination have been evident since he began his studies, reflected in his consistent placement on the NMCC Dean’s List.
Originally from Trinidad and Tobago, Jalen joined the NMCC community as an international student in the fall of 2022. Nominated for the award by Smith Wellness Center Director Tom Richard, Jalen’s work ethic and initiative were noted early on. In his nomination, Tom highlighted Jalen’s professionalism and reliability, particularly in assisting senior members of the community at the Wellness Center in his student work-study position.
Reflecting on his journey, Jalen expressed his goal of obtaining a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, citing NMCC as a catalyst for personal growth. “NMCC has positively impacted me by pushing me out of my comfort zone and fostering my holistic development,” he shared.
Additionally, Jalen has recently secured his U.S. Permanent Residence, emphasizing his steadfast dedication to both his education and community.
