Northern Maine Community College received a new Chevrolet Colorado this summer for its Automotive Technology program, a donation from General Motors facilitated through Carroll’s Auto Sales. The truck, valued at about $44,000 and delivered with five miles on the odometer, was in place as students began the fall semester.
The Colorado is being used in both the Automotive Technology and Automotive Collision Repair programs, giving students experience with the same advanced systems found in today’s dealerships and repair shops.
“This donation is a significant investment in the future of our students,” said Robert Kaiser, Automotive Technology faculty at NMCC. “Having access to a brand-new Chevrolet Colorado means our students can work on the same technology they’ll see in the industry. It raises the level of their training, builds confidence, and positions them to contribute immediately as skilled technicians when they graduate.”
Automotive Technology at NMCC provides training in all aspects of automotive service and repair, beginning with core repair knowledge and automotive electricity before advancing to engine performance, transmissions, drivetrains and hybrid technology.
“We are grateful to Carroll’s Auto and GM for helping ensure our students have access to the latest technology,” said Nicole Cote, dean of economic and workforce development at NMCC. “This donation not only supports their education but also strengthens our region’s workforce. With many local repair shops and dealerships facing technician shortages, our graduates are career-ready and prepared to contribute on day one.”
