Student of the Year

May 3, 2016

Northern Maine Community College has named Crystal Condo of Presque Isle as its 2016 Student of the Year.  Condo, along with the Student of the Year from each of the seven community college campuses in Maine, was honored during a ceremony and luncheon in Augusta on April 27.

During the awards, Dr. William Egeler, NMCC Dean of Students, shared what makes Condo an excellent choice.

“Crystal is a motivated mother of two who is determined to have a legacy of success.  She is a Dean’s List student and has reached out in countless ways around campus and around the community to improve others’ lives.  Crystal has fought through her own very difficult financial and health challenges, and that is where her passion to help others originates.  She has chosen to face her difficulties with an overwhelmingly positive attitude and to be of service to others…this is what makes her an inspiration.”

“The faculty and staff at NMCC have been a major factor in my success—without all of their encouragement and support I would not be standing here today,” Condo told those in attendance.  “NMCC has given me the tools I need to be successful and now it is up to me where I go from here.”

Senior Crystal Condo was recognized during a ceremony in Augusta as the 2016 NMCC Student of the Year. Among those celebrating the event were: Mary Cornelio, Nursing and Allied Health Department Chair; Dr. William Egeler, Dean of Students; Dr. Dottie Martin, Academic Dean; Tim Crowley, NMCC President; Condo and Rhonda Harvey, Health Information Management instructor.

Due to this recognition, Condo will be the Class of 2016 graduation speaker during NMCC’s commencement at 1 p.m. May 14th at the Forum in Presque Isle.
