Partnership with Parents

NMCC's Partnership with Parents is an initiative sponsored in part by a grant from the MELMAC Education Foundation. The initiative seeks to involve the parents of students transitioning directly from high school into college by providing them immediate access to vital student educational records. These records include, but are not limited to, course grades, billing information, financial aid and more. Access, however, is only granted with the permission and full knowledge of the NMCC student.

Why involve parents? Nationally, the percentage of students graduating from college is declining. In fact, nearly 50% of all students starting college do not graduate within one and a half times the program length (6 years for bachelor degrees, 3 years for associate degrees). We think this trend is not only unacceptable but one that can be remedied. Arming parents with timely, accurate information about their student's college experience is only one strategy NMCC is employing to help increase the number of students who persist to degree completion.

To participate, parents must have a valid e-mail account and complete both the on-line registration and the Application for Access to NMCC - Parent Information System form. Students must complete and sign the Release of Information form, in person, in the Student Affairs Office, Suite 104, AK Christie Building on the NMCC campus.

Sign up Process

To register for web access to your child's educational record, you must complete a multi-step process. This process was designed to ensure the privacy of the records being accessed and the veracity of the request. Some steps must be completed on-line.

First Steps (paper):

  1. Complete the Application for Access to NMCC Parent Information System. (This form is available both in the Student Affairs Office and on the college web site.)
  2. The Partnership with Parents Release of Information form must be completed by the NMCC student, in person, at the college's Student Affairs Office.

Next Steps (electronic/web-based):

  1. Complete and submit the web-based On-line Registration form.
  2. An e-mail which details the remainder of the process will be sent to the email address you supplied electronically.
  3. After verification of all appropriate information is completed by the college, your access to the Parent Information System - Talon - will be authorized.
