For students entering college fall
2007 *
1. Apply
for admission, if you have not already done so.
2. Gather your 2006 Federal Income tax forms.
3. Complete the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
after January 1, 2007. You can obtain a paper FAFSA from your high school
or college. To complete the FAFSA on the Web, click
here.
To be eligible for Maine state grants FAFSAs must be received by May 1,
2007.
4. List NMCCs Title IV code (005760) so we receive the results.
5. Read and follow instructions.
6. Print legibly.
7. Round to whole dollars.
8. If the answer to an item would be "none", "not applicable",
or "unknown", fill that item with a "0".
9. If there is a business income or loss on the taxes list the value and
debt of the business on the FAFSA.
10. Photocopy the completed FASFA application and (student's and parent's)
federal income tax return(s) for your records or in case the financial
aid office requests a copy.
11. Submit the completed FAFSA to the processor in the envelope provided.
12. If you completed a paper FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (pink) within six weeks.
13. Review Student Aid Report.
14. If you need to make corrections, forward the corrections to the NMCC
financial aid office since we can make the corrections faster with our
electronic connections.
15. Submit any documentation requested by the financial aid office including:
verification of untaxed income, statement of household size and number
in college, or tax records for student and spouse or student and parents.
16. Print, complete, sign and mail a NMCC Financial Aid Application or
pick one up in the financial aid office.
